Hi Folks,
This might be a tricky one, but thought I'd give it a shot here.
Is there any way to confirm if a '99 through '04 Superduty front grill is in fact Ford OEM or aftermarket.
The grill I'm asking about came off an '02 or '03 Truck that was apparently driven almost direct from the show room to the body shop for mods (a few weeks of driving before the shop. Not exactly direct.)
On the back of the grill there is remnants of a sticker which is white with a strip of yellow or orange at the bottom of it. There is nothing really too legible on it except the following that is on the yellow or orange strip:
TEAR (ONE AU) TEAR TEAR TEAR TEAR (Pomona CA 91767)
All there is to see clearly of course is "Made In Taiwan" stamped on it near the top with no other sign of a part number or code.
Can anyone confirm this one way or the other? OEM or Aftermarket? Maybe compare to one you have sitting the garage that you know came off your '99 to '04 Superduty?
SoCal Speed Shop sells grilles, can you guess where they are located?
Pomona!
Made in Taiwan = NOT Genuine Ford!
I googled the zip and came up with a few parts suppliers. Seems reasonable to me that it would be aftermarket. I contacted a couple of ebay sellers yesterday and one of them (the only one I heard back from) said they had an OEM with the "Made in Taiwan" stamp on it. They seemed legit but who knows.
Hopefully I'll get a couple more replies here to confirm. But something in your tag tells me I should take your word for it.

If the grille is Genuine Ford, there will be an ID engineering number (similar to this: F81A-8A147-AA) and the Blue Oval marked on it somewhere.
I've never seen a plastic Ford grille without similar markings.
Ford has no parts assembly plants in Taiwan.
Suggest you contact FTE sponsor FTEpartsguy.com for assistance.
FTEPartsGuy will know for sure, because this is Ed Olson, parts manager @ PARR FORD in Bremerton WA.

Thanks for the info and help ND. What you said makes clear sense RE: ford id and oval. Originally that was the type of markings I was looking for on it, but after the communication with the ebay seller I started doubting my initial thought of it being aftermarket.
A few years back, 97, 98, 99 for sure, a lot of Ford Grills were made at Guardian Automotive in Morehead, Ky. This included some of the Big trucks [F8000, 9000]that Ford sold and became Sterling. Sterling grilles are still made there. I see the scrap pile all the time. I don't know exactly what year Ford canceled their deal with Guardian for the small trucks though. Hammer65
Since last year I replaced an oem ford superduty grill with an aftermarket one here is what I know. The oem grill did have ford branding and a part number on the back and was a work truck so the grill had quite a bit of wear. The aftermarket grill says taiwan on the back, but for a new chrome grill with the center blacked out for $40 you can not beat it. You have to swap your center emblem since the ford logo is copyright protected, but so what. Aftermarket sells them 3 ways, all chrome, chrome with the center blacked out, or grey like an xl would have. Either chrome grill is $2 more than the $38 xl style. I used items sold by certifit since they are local.Perfect fit and you would be hard to notice a difference once installed. I also bought 2 aftermarket front fenders. They are like $38 or so each. They fit well, but the rear bodyline to the door contour is slightly off on one of them, but compared to the severly dented fenders the truck had it was a huge low cost improvement .
Thanks for the input gentlemen. After the input from here and a couple of helpful ebay sellers it been worked out. It's clearly aftermarket. Atleast it's in near perfect condition so someone will have a shiny new looking grill on their Truck. I'm going to stick with my billet insert for now.
