Towing/gearing ?

Looking at a 95 F-150 4.9L/5 speed combo. I believe it has 3.08 gearing from the factory. My 89 & 90, with the same combo, had that gearing. With that said what would be the best ratio for towing? If I do get this it will get heavier rear springs, rear disc. & a lsd or locker in the rear. It will get used as a DD/tow rig. Thanks for any help. JIM.

How much weight and at what speeds will you be towing? 3.55 gears(with stock sized tires) is a good overall ratio for the I6 if you do any amount of hwy driving, but more gears are better for the tranny if the loads are heavier and/or you rarely exceed 60mph.

I'm pretty sure the XJ & trailer will be between 5500 & 6000 lbs. Speeds will mostly be 65 or less. Most trips with the jeep will be 4 hrs. or less. 3.55's should be easy to find. Thanks, JIM.
