Question 5 sp issues

Got a 2000 3.0 5spd Just got it A month ago change out trans fliud and clutch system and bleed it out no air chutch petal engages about half way or farer up and shifts ok for 147000 but sometimes when upshifting seems like it dont want to go into gear right away like your waiting on it then its goes it and sometimes you ll skim the 4th gear. It downshifts just fine no problem there. Is that problem in the clutch or it the trans itself?I plan on changing whole clutch systems at some point sc mc throw out pressure plate fly wheel and rear main seal but thats about 500 wasnt planing on now.

Sounds like the trans. What fluid did you use? Mercon V or Royal Purple ATF are probably the best choices.

Is it full or does it get easier as it warms up? Sounds like the shift rail or linkage. On really cold days, I'll warm up the shifter going easy with the clutch in before I take off to be sure.

Darn M5OD anyway!! It does sound like the original clutch is in place-mine was doing the same-replaced mine-mucho better..The slave cylinder sounds like its about had it, so replace it along with the clutch-good luck on the bleed procedure....

Mercon should be fine-unless you want to "upgrade" to synthetics-you'll get plenty of suggestions on that subject....

not sure if org clutch just got it with 147000 had someone push clutch while i look at motion its moving if i remember about a good inch or more of movment and slave isnt leaking like my 92 was before I changed it. Its full up to the fill plug but it sure seemed like more fluid came out than I put back in I really think they flip these things on its side and overfill them. Was thinking of taking the stick out and pour the rest it that it says to did the same on my 92 My 92 never had a issue ( it was a 1992 2.3 5 sp and this is 2000 3.0 5 sp not sure if there a difference between the trans and clutches used there both M5ODs )and had about 100,000 before the sc went so replaced the clutch PP TO bearing I had a shop do it and they said the disc was only about half done so its possible org clutch. I was younger then and didnt have a place or tools to do it to do it then now I have a garage and tools to do it myself but

The M5OD trans is famous for that. The transmission itself is weak for a manual trans, and the synchros don't like to line up properly and they wear rapidly. My Dad loves the 5 speed on his '96 Ranger, but his has slight issues with 1st gear and 2nd. My '90 B2600i uses the sam tranny, and mine even after a total rebuild still has issues with 3rd.

As for the slave, they do love to go bad in the cold. Before you take off, if it's very stiff, work that gently several times too. And check for water in the master cylinder. The cap is halfway under a the end of the hood's weather-stripping. A teaspoon of isopropyl alcohol should get the clutch safely to its next powerflush. Still sounds like the tranny though to me. Can't fathom the clutch causing all your symptoms. I like both DRB & Bear's posts to keep in mind as you drive it.
