The best fix I have heard was take it apart, machine each piece so you can slide a piece of exhaust pipe in each part to make a sleeve through the connection.
To much pressure and heat there for normal exhaust wraps and the like.
dave i see you have 6.9 diesel your building. what kinda up pipe are you running. i look up the ats aurora 2000, there up pipe looks just like mine do you know if it would fit a factory turbo. looking at the layout diagram for installation it might go. one more thing you ever hear of a gasket type oring that goes between the two pieces. ( the y and turbo inlet pipe)
I just went threw this when I did lifters on our 94 idi T. The pipes are sposed to go together about .750 - 1". However it is basically impossible to get them pressed back together when in the truck. The only way to get them totally back together is moving or pulling the motor and get the Y pipe out and press them together out of the truck and than reinstall them and put the motor back.
The whole thing is a **** poor design but we have to put up with what ford gives us...
ok so i have new y and turbo in let pipe on the way. if i press them together will it go back in as one piece, and i think the old y pipe will fall out when un bolted. so i think i will try and pull the old y pipe and turbo inlet as one if it comes out the old one has to go back in.
The Y and up pipe will not come out in one piece.
Not enough rooom.
If my turbo has to come off, the motor comes out of the truck first.
I am to old to crawl around on top of the engine and lift heavy parts in a bad position. Also even though my up pipe has been on several motors, it has never been seperated since it was new.
i will try and put in the new turbo up piep this weekend. i still cant figure out how the stock pipe only goes together about an 1/4 inch, should the new one fit together all the way when it is installed, it does here on the bench if it does there is no way it could leak.
