Edge Evolution Programer is it worth it?

I've seen this unit and it looks nice, and I have been seeing them for about $300 bucks on craigslist.org I have a 4.6 motor that is stock and I almost have 100K miles. My truck has been flawless and troublefree so far, but I do not enjoy the throttle lag. I have a 06 Roush and I took care of that with a SCT programer and custom tune. I was just wondering if its worth the $300 price tag?? I also like the way it looks and it gives you some info realtime on the display. I have an XL so it doesn't have a tach, and I think the Edge will display RPM. Thanks you all your input!

well, as to whether its worth it or not, it depends on what you really want.... if you are looking for a 10 second truck, then no. but, it will help with the throttle lag, shift points, and some mpg's if set up for that. i personally run level 2, and i use it mostly for the readings, and the ability to read and clear codes. its a great unit IMO. im sure that you would like it too. as for the 300 price tag, its used, so make sure that the truck it was on was returned to stock. the edge is VIN locked when your runninga custom program, so it wont work on your truck. HOWEVER, if the seller claims that the unit is cleared, and it in fact isnt, then EDGE can still help you, but you wont be able to use it right away as you would want to.

Thanks for the reply. Actually, it is brand new and the local shop is having an inventory closeout. I could use the better MPG and Throttle lag fix for my truck since I drive it 500 miles a week. I will call this place and check it out.

i would go onto EDGE's website, and see if they are an authorized distributor...... if not, then EDGE wont honor the warranty.

In order to get the best MPG increase, you have to run level 3 (which requires high test), and then do some more adjustments (shift points, timing, etc). So, in the long run of things, your not really gaining too much, when you factor in the increased gas pricing for the high test. but the "seat of the pants" feel is a lot better in level 3.

Thanks again for your inputs. I think $300 is a good price and the guy even gave me the mounting pod for it. They are also a authorized dealer so they are legit. Part # is EEF2400.

Yeah, I run level III and around town I get 15.8-16.1 on the mileage. 20-21 on the highway. Not stellar by any means, but a lot better than I got on stock. I also run the shift firmness at +5, +5, +3. That's all I've done. I got a new engine, and updating it gave me fits, but it works again now.

I have it on Level 1 right now, and it feels like a new truck! Well driving around with 98K miles without it and got use to the throttle lag, and now it has instant response and the trans shifts nice! Well worth the 300 bucks and now I have a tach!

Thanks guys!

How would this help out a F150 with the 3.55 axle in a 4x4 with a 5.4l? Would there be a differnece? I am not sure there would be much gain with the 355 is there? What are you guys running gear wise to feel the accelleration gain?

I have the same set up. I have the Volant CAI, Magnaflow SIDO exhaust, Edge. Yea, it makes a difference.

glenerd my son in law put a cover on the bed andd got a 1-1.5 mpg increase on a stock truck on the highway. said he wished he had it on our trip to colorado over turkey day but thats life. he got one of the soft covers, read that the covers (hard) would help up to 2 mpg, this was on a PSD however so I guess with what the SiL got might be a fact.

My son had the edge on his 04 but it caused some other issueas and never helped with the milage. He has a custom exhaust only and it helps the power very well. He wants to go to an intake but doesnt have the $300 right now. BTW he sold the edge and just runs stock. 14-15 around town 18on the highway. This is a 5.4 with currently broken spark plug issues.
