Question 06' drive shaft center bearing

Has anyone had the center or carrier bearing go out on a newer F150? I have an 06' 4x4 163" wheel base, super-cab with an 8' bed, truck and the carrier bearing went out.

The truck has 60k on it and I bought it about a month ago. You can't buy the carrier bearing or the complete drive-shaft at an auto parts store. Ford won't replace the bearing and sells the complete drive-shaft for $800+.

I would think that there must be a carrier bearing that would fit. Has anybody had to deal with this yet??

Check this out.....you could use the front 1/2 of the shaft from the donor, and your exsisting rear 1/2. This is an 8 ft bed, but looks like reg. cab. So if the front 1/2 physical length is the same, youd be in business, using your rear 1/2. The brg is not serviceable. Niether are the u joints unless you have the clips, so you can replace them. Ford does stupid things. This is Pams Auto, i have never bought anything from them, but you can talk to Randy.

I meant to say, i realize their a bit pricey on shipping,, but beats $800+, and with lifetime warranty. If you want, i can measure my front 1/2 shaft on my 05 145" WB, (scab w/6.5 bed) and if its the same as yours, then as mentioned earlier, you just use the front 1/2 of the new one, (with brg) and your old back 1/2. They also had others. If you go with this, i am need a rear 1/2 of a 2 piece, to modify to use with my new 9.75 rear., if you would sell what you dont need.... paul.....

Thanks for the info, brain fart I didn't check ebay. Sure measure the front half and that might work out. My u-joints do have the clips so that makes it easier. I've heard it's the 04-05's that don't. I'm going to call ford today and see if they will pick up the tab even though the mileage puts it out of warranty.

Needing to replace the drive-shaft on a 2 year old truck that has not been abused doesn't say much for being built ford tough.

Exclamation

This one does NOT include a carrier bearing...the HD F150s, with the 163" wheelbase are the ONLY -150s to have that bearing!!!

You have a two-piece driveshaft, not a one-piece like all of us lowly, non-HD folk, and it is a completely different animal!

On edit: You may try a driveshaft shop...

try getting the bearing out and going directly to a Bearing supply shop....i've done it before for many "non serviceable" parts....Most bearings are not specialty designed, they're stock bearings out of a catalog....they might be able to help you out...

Pull the shaft and take it to about any drive line shop and they can put on a new bearing.

crazy001....allow me to correct you on that statement about the 145" WB not having the swing brg. (thats what we called it in the old days) I have an '05, 145" scab, 6.5 ft box, that DOES have the brg. It is a run of the mill XLT, with towing package, the 4th leaf, 4.6 and the "ranger" 8.8 3.55. (soon to be a 975, its waiting on me to install ! , soon as i can get the second 1/2 D shaft, has to be shorter than my current one for the 8.8) Hardly what i would call the HD package. But i'm not saying ALL 145" have 2 pc d shaft. I believe the 4 x 4 has a 1 pc. Now if someone could help me find a complete d-shaft, i'd be in business. later......the ford nut for 54 yrs paul

Paul, thank you for the correction.

A year or so ago, I thought I read something about the 163" wheelbase trucks were the only ones with the two-piece driveshaft that uses a center support bearing. Apparently I was wrong...

Thanks, all! I found a complete used shaft at Quality auto parts out of Chicago. They swear it's for the 163" wb, I sure hope they're right. Then I'll have the old one to mess with in case it goes out again. Not sure why it would go out on a 2 year old truck so it may be a re-acuring problem.

have you talked to a Driveline Shop?

had a similar problem with my old Bronco
the knuckle by the t-case was "not serviceable". took it to a driveline shop. $120 later, had all new u-joints and a new bearing in that knuckle

also, my 71 C-10 had a 2 piece driveshaft with carrier bearing...again, went to a driveline shop, maybe $50 and it was ready to re-install

braggon.....do you have phone no. for the place you used, or a link? let me know how it goes. I know, i hate buying something like this without seeing it. It would be expensive to ship back , if they didnt pick up the tab. Would you mind, if i asked what they wanted for the assy incl. shipping? thanks...paul

Paul, Quality auto parts called to tell me they didn't have the right one, I'm glad they discovered that before they shipped it!

But they said that Central foreign has one.

I'll call them after the holidays but I'll probably take it to a drive line shop first and see what they say.

Merry Christmas to all!
