Hi the screw out part of my fuel shrader valve is broken. It looks like a normal tire valve stem core. Is it special because it seels gas and not air? If they are different where do I get one? The NAPA store said they showed nothing on it. Thanks.
Go to your local salvage yard and find any Ford fuel injected car of that vintage. Bring with you a valve core removal tool (many auto parts stores sell tire valve caps that have the two prongs on the other side), and pull one off of any of those cars.
Failing that, the Schrader type valve of any air conditioning system should work as well. They are constantly exposed to oily lubes, so they should resist gasoline. But AC systems use different sizes, so make sure you pull out the correct size.
/\ /\ Yeah that. I would not use a regular tire core for the same reason you don't use vacuum hose for fuel line. You may end up with a fire under your hood someday!
I use.... nithing leaks. I tried to screw it in and unspected a week later, all rubber paerts were ok. so many companies makes tire valves and some of them may seal, some not. so experiment may help!
I got a tire core from NAPA today along with a metal cap. The cost of one core is .75. I also had Ford order me one and it should be here by Wednesday. Of course you can't get just the core, cost of assembly 9.50. Thanks for all of the suggestions. I think the A/C core is a good idea. Hopefully this won't come up again. As far as pulling a part it did warm up to -42 today so I it wold not have been too bad.
Maybe you've seen one or more of those devices designed to pre-lube the engine before starting in an effort to reduce start up wear. They use either a passive pressure tank or an active pump that you run just before starting to presurize the oil passages. Combine this with a standard block heater (typical Fairbanks equipment). Would that help your morning start ups?
