looking for a rebuilder

If you can travel a ways, the best bet in finding a good older truck is to look around the SW (AZ, TX, NV, NM) or the west coast (CA, OR, WA) for a truck. The weather in these areas is either mild or dry and they don't use salt on their roads.
I bought a used '84 F250 4x4 with NP435 4-spd. tranny, 300 CID 6 engine, and AC for $1700 a couple of years ago. It was a CA truck. Yeah, it had 140k miles on it but only a tiny bit of surface rust on the frame and no rust at all on the body, even underneath. I've seen a lot of trucks for less money but few in that good of shape. Mechanical stuff was all good too and the paint was fair.
Anyway, it will be difficult to find what you want in your area if they use salt on the roads. That stuff WILL eat every vehicle driven on it after a few years.
