Anyone ever have this problem?
A friend of mine has a 2001 SD with an overhead message center that went dead. He replaced one from ebay and they said that this was an OEM, brand new unit. When he got the unit he noticed a small burnt mark in the top corner. He asked about this mark and was told. ("Hello, this is common on all LED screens this is caused by a capsule placed inside the display while it is processed to burn off all air inside the display.") Is this correct? When installed the mark is not visible. Has anyone replaced theres with a new one and noticed this mark?
There are a lot of ways to manufacture a product with limited or no oxygen present. Low pressure or oxygen free environments should be easier to work with than putting some kind of high heat capsule to burn a small area. I've never had a new display apart, but the ones I've played with did have a brown spot, either from age or the processes of molding the plastic.
If it lights, don't worry about it. The seller probably heard that from someone who heard it from a friend, ect.
I did not replace mine with a new one I just fixed mine as it is pretty simple to fix but mine had the same spot on the display and it is the factory OEM that came in the truck.
