tailgate blonde moment
I have come close on two occasions to losing either luggage or work stuff due to leaving my tailgate down. Luckily I have 2 bungee cords spanning the the tie downs.
But I was thinking of some type of dash light that tells me the gate is open.
any idears?

Use an LED and an old style door switch. Mount the door switch so when the tailgate closes it makes contact and shuts the LED off.

No but you could also wire a beeper to it that would come on whenever you have the tailgate down and put it in reverse.

Hmmm, like the reverse sensor does? Or was that what you were getting at?
If it is too much of a hassle to drill a hole somewhere for a conventional door-type switch, you could use the two-piece surface-mount door switch/magnet combinations, like they use for home alarms.
Or, you could mount a tilt switch in or on the tailgate.

I like this idea. Then, when you are pulling a wheelie like in the Monster Trucks, you would know when you have gone high enough........

Wouldnt be hard to do, just might be hard to find a safe place to put the switch.

Looks like it should work. Good catch. Where do you plan to mount it?

That would be an interesting addition to add on there along with a powerlocking tailgate.
