Rear diff cover bolt ?

* Figured I'd better start a new thread as I might get a better response this way, instead of at the end of the fluid question posted previously.*Went to Lowes and got the 1.25" 5/16 bolts yest. and if it gets warm enough today I'm going to swap the covers. I got the grade 5 bolts, grade 8 were zinc-colored while grade 5 were silver. Will torque to 24lb/ft but I have one question- there were fully threaded and thread-1/4" shoulder bolts. Now I'm thinking it SHOULDN'T make a difference but I know if I got the bolts with the shoulder below the head, they wouldn't fit thru the cover holes. Maybe, maybe not, but I got the threaded ones to be sure. Did I do the right thing? I mean only torqing them to 24 lb/ft the grade 5 bolts should be fine, right? I also got flat washers. And I also have 4 qts Mobil 1, took Valvoline back.

So far so good, cover is on, waiting on permatex to set up awhile and then torque bolts down, re-fill and road test. The very bottom bolt on the left side I couldn't thread all the way in by hand, stopped a few threads shy. Carefully put 3/8 drive on it and it went in snug, maybe just junk in the threads. I'll have to keep an eye on that one but I'm sure it'll be OK, just paranoid Looks ALOT better than the plain black stocker!

Which cover did you get to replace the stock one?

08 aluminum finned, Ebay for $53 + shipping. Didn't include bolts but they were only $3 @ Lowes. Don't know if you can get it cheaper anywhere else, but its much cheaper than a Mag-hytec.

Got mine from Y2K Ford (a sponsor), paid less than flea bay. Painted it black then fine sanded the the fins, gave it a nice contrast and it looks great with the silver bolts and washers.
