So i am showing my buddy how the selectible transmission works and explaining at 45mph is when the torque converters lock in these things. Then suddenly vehicle studders then flashes "engine failsafe mode" I pull to the side of the road after me gasing it for a second does nothing.
Turn the car on then off then car is fine for the next 15 seconds and engien failsafe mode appears again. Later on we pull the battery for 10 minutes to reset the ECU. WEll that makes it worse. At that point me stepping on the gas petal does nothing. Not in neutral not in gear nothing. But car will roll around in gear fine. Fast forward things about 1 1/2 hours later miraciously the gas petal works again and i was able tot drive home.
I used a cheap ob2 reader which failed to link. Hopefully i'll get details tomarrow.
These ZF 6HP26 6 speed transmissions tough?
They appear to be rated at 600nm which is 400 foot pounds of input of torque. Which has to be cut in half when you consider a torque converter multiplication. So these are under spec!
Trans was the number one reason I just extended the factory warranty to 100K. Sorry to hear of your problems. I know when my Corvette goes into "limp" mode it is usually a multiple misfire.
I think Z01PSI hit it on the head. I think you are probably having a misfire condition (probably a COP boot is cracked and shorting to the block). After the engine cools down the misfire disappears....had the same thing happen to me. Get the codes and see which cylinder is throwing the misfire.
Solution:
I was about to buy the $90 tps sensor and install it but was afraid that wasn't the fix.
Went ot the dealer they basically did the same thing as me but said because the tps sensor alwasy goes out that's the culprit. ($45 for evaluation)
$90 for the part and installed it and that was the fix. Aparently when taking it apart i noticed a little bit of water inside the tps sensor module. I think during our flooding when i hit some water when it splashed up inside it must of got on the sensor resulting in it to short out the next day
