I want to remove the camper on a `71 F-250. It came w/only 3 camper jacks and I figure there ought to be 4.But I never done it before. What do they weigh 1000lbs ?
Theres an older gentleman down the road that has a camper like mine sittin` on blocks, I`ll ask him if I can borrow one of his jacks if still has them. Thanks for the reply
Is it an 8-foot camper so it's only as long as the bed, or is it longer with an overhang in the back? On the one I used to have, I had a jack that was missing so I used a floor jack and blocks on one of the rear corners, which were closer to the ground due to the overhang...see pic:
Note missing camper jack on rear.
But yes, if you can borrow one that will fit easily, that's the better way. I also once borrowed a pair of jacks that were not meant to be actually installed on the camper but were for temporary use, like the one in the pic below:
They were bigger and beefier than this one as there were only two of them, so they had to be centered exactly on each side and it was still a shaky, scary deal. But just one like the above would be perfect to borrow and use on the corner that's missing one.
Alternatively, you could chain it to a tree and simply drive out from under it...
