Engine block identification.

I need to identify the engine size and year on the engine in my 59 F 100.
I have a 68 F 200? and I had the same trouble with it, but A friend of mine had a book and I got the number off the bottom of the block next to the oil pan bolts, and the book told (with that information) all I needed to know to service the truck with parts and tune up information. Can't seem to find anything like that book now. Any one know where such a book is?
And here is a few pictures of the truck. Thanks everyone!
Well I was going to post pictures but it says I can't? Sorry

Is it a six cylinder or V8, and do you know if its the original motor or not?

I think the engine is a 289, but it may be a 302 I don't know?
I'll start a gallery.

Windsor

Yup, that looks like a 289 or a 302. That's a pretty nice option. I have to wonder how it got mounted, but it's a nice, lightweight engine.

I believe that the others are correct about what's now installed in you '59, as the 272/292/312 Y-Blocks had the distributor mounted back by the firewall.

And light weight is right, you'd be better off w/ a Tricked out 312 Y-Block than that enimic @#*! that is in there now.

Thanks for looking guys. And I wish I had a Y-block for it. Maybe later as I know where a couple are. But for now body work and wiring and part buying.
It's something to keep me from setting idle at home on week ends and evenings, after work of course.

looks like a 302 or 351w. That engine should be more than fine for you and easy to get parts for. Cheaper to trick out a 302 or 351 than a y-block.

You must not be looking in the right place, as I've found them to be on par w/ each other.

That looks like the 302 I have in my truck same exhaust manifolds however, I did get them from a friend of mine off a 289. Look on the lower part of the block there should be some numbers there it will tell you the year & engine C.I.D.

You may be right, since I am not actively looking for Y block stuff...I just know that the 289,302, and 351w have an arguably bigger aftermarket. My thoughts were that since he already has the smallblock installed, no reason to yank it out when it isn't that much of a slouch performance wise. It would be more cost effective for him to keep what he has and upgrade that engine, but to each his or her own.

Y blocks are cool though, I would agree.

If that Windsor is mounted correctly, I'd stay with that. The Y-block is pretty expensive to work on. I have two 292's in progress, so I'm speaking from experience. If that 289 is working, just be sure to add ZDDP to the oil and keep it running.
