Decoding the VIN? Oasis?
I have found a truck I'm interested in and would like to know more about it.
1FTPW14546KB22690 06 FX4 Screw.
Will the Oasis report give this info? How do i go about requesting one?
Thanks in advance.
The VIN does not encode much in the way of options. However, the vehicle information sticker on the door jamb (or door itself, depending on the vehicle) will give you at least the original color code and differential code. I think there's an article on FTE somewhere on how to read the codes, but I can't find it now.
OASIS is a great system, but AFAIK it tracks repair history, not much in the way of original build data. Perhaps one of the Ford techs who inhabit FTE will jump in. The main reason to ask for an OASIS report IMHO is to see if the truck has had major warranty issues. OASIS will also indicate if the vehicle has a Ford extended warranty if I remember correctly.
I believe the dealer can request the original build sheet. But most options are visible, or can be deduced from the door jamb sticker -- what exactly are you trying to find out?
Good luck,
I finally got someone at the dealership to go out and check for me. They are 100 mi. away.
I requested an Oasis in the "Buying a Truck" forum. Looks like the place to put it.
I'm sure anyone can request a build sheet from Ford. Just dont have the time to wait for it.
