Very nice looking... Do you happen to have the pattern handy that you drew onto the mdf? I don't have any door panels in mine and if you have one drawn up that you could e-mail me it would be easier then making a template out of cardboard and transferring it to the wood.

I have my measurements written down. This was all from scratch so there are no templates haha. I didn't even think of making a stencil, I suppose that would have been a good idea. I recommend making your own measurements simply because they were different between my driver side and passenger side doors. Not much mind you, but enough that things wouldn't line up if I didn't recalculate. I did my measurements from the left and top sides of the door. If you look closely at the bottom of the door you can see the designs for the different packages. I went with the plain old custom package but you can clearly see the other packages like XL. They look simply like a ridge along the door, the custom is the only one that goes straight across with no ridge.
I used a blue plastic cup to do the top edges, the blue is key here, it won't work with a red plastic cup
It just happened to be the same radius. I measured from the inside of the door's ridge where the original panel would have been, however, I left about an 1/8th of an inch on every side for the extra thickness of the carpet.
Very Nice!
I hope you don't have a patent on those, cause I'm gonna steal your idea.
Haha, no patent, Just my own design. You're welcome to use the idea, I'd like to see what kind of creative designs people can come up with. You could use the pink foam sheets you get at menards to do some really fancy stuff if you feel like sanding. Good luck with yours, be sure to post a picture.
I've thought about this also. I've seen them do similar things on "Pimple-My_Ride". I'd like to do this on my crew using sheets of plastic instead of mdf, and vinyl instead of fabric to make it more waterproof in case I take it submarining. I love these old trucks, but I think the interiors are fugly... but hey, I'm 26 so I did kinda miss the 70's.
I had a 85 150 with some panels off of a 95 model on it. Took some mods, but they looked pretty good. There use to be a company (lear) that made panels for ford not from from my old hometown so they were easy to come by. Nice work Casey! I use to have time to do cool stuff before I got married and had two kids.

That is what I am thinking, toyed with plexi with a vinyl covering and OEM arm rest cleaned up and I ended up making new door handles years ago for it.
Nice job!! I'm impressed. Here in Wyoming and in surrounding areas they sell that vehicle carpet by the yard at many of the carpet stores... and it doesn't cost much.
