Truck won't start.
after it died i drained fuel/water seperator. Alot of fuel came out. Towed to house and changed cps unit that I had. It was left over from pervious trial and error diagnosis.

Still did not start. Tach jumps to about 300 while cranking.

Pulled off fuel filter cover and noticed no fuel. So i decided to crank again to see if it would fill up again and it didn't.

While cranking ( cranked for a while to make sure fuel could get to filter 30-45 second probably) starter just stopped cranking like a loss of power.

Now I have 2 problems!!
(1)Nothing when I turn the Key? Any thoughts
(2) Need to get fuel to filter? any thoughts. Fuel pump location on a 97 7.3 crewcab? one pump for both tanks or individual pumps?
Thanks AGAIN FTE

fuel pump is mechanical located under the turbo....do you have WTS CEL lights?......check fuse 22 under hood, before you crank again fill the fuel bowl up,check oil level in crankcase and HPOP.....as far as getting nothing when you turn the key....you may have drained the batts. throw them on the on a charger. If fuse 22 is blown disconnect you fuel heater in the fuel bowl.it is on the drivers side single wire plug(IIRC it is the middle plug)

give your starter a a min or so between cranking to cool....15 -25 sec cranks

Ron
I went back out after 30 minutes or so and truck cranks now. I do have a wts light. did not check to see if the cel was on. Need to run errands now! I will crank again when I get back and see if any fuel will get to filter.
Don't know where to check hpop oil! and I did check to make sure I was on the right tank. Thanks for the info.

is the fuel pump hard to replace?

Fuse 22 is good also!

thanks again.

HPOP is on top front of the motor....rectangle with a sensor and a allen head cap on the top of it ....pull the cap,oil should be just below the cap.If it is low fill it up.Before you crank again put some fuel or power service in the fuel filter.

there are alot of good writeups on the pump replacement that we can get for you

sounds like you were on the verge of melting the starter solonoid, may need a starter soon.

as for fuel, check it while someone is cranking and put a gauge on the shrader valve next to the regulator. typicly a fuel pump will leak before it fails on a powerstroke.
