What year and model of truck do you have? 2003 and up extendable towing mirrors are wired for heat, prior to that you would need to change the whole mirror. Do you have the paddle mirrors? Your profile says you have a 2005, if you have the extendable towing mirrors, they should already have heat. Does your mirror have a little symbol in the corner?
You can buy a set of newer tow mirrors (2003 and up) with heat and install them - if wires are not there, you can find instructions on here by searching or here is a good link with some wiring instructions.
The truck is an 05 F250 it came with the standard paddle mirrors with power, but no turn signal in the mirror.
I hated the paddle mirrors so I swaped to the towing mirrors but they do not have heat or turn signal. I will buy some heated mirrors with the turn signal if I can wire them up. I would wire up the turn signals if I can, but I don t care as much about the turn signal as I do the heat.
If I understand that post correctly, I could find the hot wire to the power window switch and splice the heated mirror into that? The mirrors would always be on but maybe that is how they are normally, I am not sure? Thanks for the help
I thought there was a conversion plug/harness for this. I did a little research on this for a friend and my local parts guy (very knowledgeable) said I just needed the mirrors and the conversion harness. I didnt look it up but he said some of the companies selling on EBay offer the harness with the mirrors.
These heated mirrors are on all the time. If you do some searching on here though, you'll be able to find some posts where folks have wired them to their upfitter switches to control them and not have them heat all the time.
Like already said they are factory wired to constant power(key on). I am wiring my '08 mirrors on my '02 to switched power to that they can be turned off for the three months of nice weather here.
Funny you mention that because my 08 mirrors are controlled by a button on the auto climate control instead of being on all the time (maybe Ford is listening). It only stays on for about 10 minutes and shuts off automatically. Im still trying to get in the habit of hitting the button every time I start the truck on cold days. Most of the time 10 minutes is fine but when driving through snow its a pain to keep hitting the button as the mirrors keep freezing up.

I am assuming you bought the older tow mirrors without heat, signal and marker lights. The newer mirrors with the lights are plug and play on a 2005 and up Super Duty. I replaced my paddle mirrors with a set of 2006 tow mirrors and they were plug and play - everything works on them. So unless you have an XL model that doesn't have the extra wires in the harness (which would be odd as they normally are there on all trucks) you should have no problems buying a newer tow mirror set and not need to change anything over. The flat plugs in the door have all the proper connections unless you changed the plug when you installed the different mirrors.
Hope this helps, if not, PM me and I will try and answer your specific questions as I have done the same change you are talking about on my 2005.
I am working on an installation with a 10-minute timer and a round three-position rocker switch (on - off - timer). It will use two relays near the fuse panel and mount the switch on the lower panel, with a green LED to indicate that the heat is on. You can choose the timer ( 10 minutes the first cycle, then 5 min. each additional cycle) or continuous on. I will post this when I get it done and tested. I believe it will work well, but I don't want to promote it until I've tested it fully.
