is it better on our engines to run synthetic oil or would it hurt anything because i heard that syn oil doesnt break down and actually gives a lil power
I've used synthetics in all my vehicles. There is no negatives that I can think of except for the cost. Some will say it causes leaks, that just ain't so. It's a little thinner so it finds the leaks that were already there.
It really helps with cold starts, the engine seems to roll over faster and is a ton quieter too!
I became a syn believer after disassembling my sons Camaro SS engine after 130K miles of total abuse. He beats the crap outta that thing....changes oil every 5-7K miles. There was virtually no wear on the cylinder walls or bearings and clean as a whistle inside.
x2 what cuda_jim said. it may cost a little more, however, after price comparison with extended oil change periods with syn, i've found it to be more cost effective to use the synthetic. 1 filter and 3.5 gals synthetic for 10k miles ~ $85 vs. 2 filters and 7 gals dyno for 10k miles ~$100

Does the stock filter handle the extended drain period or are you running a bypass filter also?
Happy New Year All.
For years I have been using 15w40 in my psd untill just recently I was In Grande Prairie Alberta working for a month. 4 plugs hanging out of the grill and it was just brutal trying to start, keep in mind we are talking about -40 c or for our US friends 40 deg below 0. I had to put a ceramic heater under the hood pointed at the HPO rails and the HPO tank for 4 hours, plus a bat charger, bat. heating blankets and the block heater. Crazy!
I took the old girl in and got 0w30 syn. put in. What a difference!! Still a very rough idol on start up and lots of smoke. Now i'm back home at -15c and it starts without being plugged in.
I am going to switch to syn. oil year round. 0w40 in the summer and 0w30 in the winter.
