Bob--I built and rebuilt many control panels for machine tools in the past. I would have our electrician gut them and refinish them and then rewire for whatever piece of equipment the panel was meant for.
I built some of the first cat-scan panels etc. I think you must be quite smart to do electronic work like this.
Some of those panels can weigh a heck of a lot. With nc and cnc machine tools today--you must be busy.

The Collet mill at work has an old analog looking control panel that is about 6 feet tall by 8 feet wide. Electricians come, they open it, and they about crap themselves. Quite entertaining.

Ya nothing like those ol' 440 powered relays slamin' open and shut - control panel shuddering, smell of ozone, little sparks shooting around the edges

Nice!!...How far are you from home? any closer? Your gonna love that heat..and what a Cool place overhead to store extra parts!
You will be so organized..you won"t know what to do with yourself..
I just finished making some custom brackets to hang the front clip on the wall...in pieces, but that overhead storage is a great idea, you won"t be knocking things over and there will be less chance of damaging some of your" VintageJunk "...LoL!

Congratulations!!

I've been doing this type of work for nearly twenty years.
Nice looking work Bob. As an industrial construction electrician I have put in litterally hundreds of cabinets and panels like you have pictured in everything from car plants to steel mllls. we also have lots of chemical plants in the area that are loaded with that sort of stuff. I can't complain, it was a good thirty years but if I had been smart I would have went the way you did and started a business. But there is the fact that I know you had to put in way more than your 40 to make it work for you and running a business these days is way to overloaded with red tape. I do admire your ability to achieve success at it.

Later Man...

As an extra side line those cabinets look like they would make an excelent tool cabinet, do you fabricate the cabinets or just install the internals to these units.

That's a great shop

I have a 20' x 12' shed, I have to move junk out before i can work on my truck
No heating and it's been cold this last week but I still got a bit done

I am drawing up a 20' x 30' brick built workshop that I will build this summer

I also work in the CNC machine tool business as a field service engineer

Good luck with your new shop

you know...Havi, I think your shop might just be a little bit bigger than Bobs, and it's got to be hell trying to move the machine to make floor space
