Hey guys happy new year!! I have a quick question thats been buggin me for a while. When its really cold out (7deg or so) and even when its round freezing my truck doesn't idle as high as it should on "high idle", and when it kicks down to normal idle it surges and sometimes stalls out. Does anyone else have this problem?? I have to keep my foot on the gas to keep it from stalling out until i drive it for bout a min and then its fine. I am going to check my idle air valve tomorrow, anything else I should check?? I would like to be able to let my truck warm up without worrying if its gonna stall on me. Thanks guys!
I know when it gets that cold you should use a lighter weight oil and maintain the fuel w/some additive.Try putting a new fuel filter in and add some injector cleaner to the fuel.I put Marvel Mystery oil in my gas some times and it seems to like it.I dont know what the book says for oil but 10/30 seems right.
My truck had those very same symptoms on every cold start. I had a heck of a time figuring it out. The fuel injectors were partially clogged making it too lean on a cold start. The only other clues were low power and a lean code when I ran the key on engine running test with a scan tool. You could also have low fuel pressure or a vacuum leak making it run too lean on startup.
Hey, i'm having the same problem right now. Everything on my truck (1994 ford f-150 4x4 5.8 litre) has been checked by two ford sevice centers and the brother in law, also a ford mechanic. It's been narrowed down to a faulty E.C.M. The things that have been changed are the I.A.C. oxy sensor, map sennsor from a running truck, temp sensor, and upper intake gasket (vacume leak). We finally hooked up another engine computer to it and it ran fine but I couldn't use it because it was for a stick shift. This may not be your problem but it sounds exactly like mine.
