Somewhat different VIN frame loaction

I recently found my VIN located rear of the cross member rather than forward as mentioned in many posts. I also have one located under the cab on the passenger's side. I posted a new pic in my gallery with sandpaper marking the locations

Also posted a cpouple pics of the painted under the bed

I have heard of them being further back although I have never seen one. The second under the cab is standard. The one under the cab would be the absolute go to when all else failed.

The actual location varies where stamped by year. Ford shop manuals describe where each is located. 61 62/63 supplement 64 65 and 66.

Some fore some aft ect. The ford mechanic can reference this and locate it easily.

All are stamped around the middle under the cab on top of the rail.

My 1965 was assembled in San Jose, CA.

The VIN is stamped on the front crossmember directly under the harmonic balancer.

I found it when I pulled the engine for a rebuild in 1981.

Since I know the entire history of my truck from day one, I've never needed to look for a frame VIN.

In my 65 shop manual it says on pg 1,section 1, book 1, first printing from Sept. 1964 that the VIN on F,N,NT,T and B series - right frame rail approxamately 24 inches forward of the No.2 crossmember.
On C series 10 inches forward of the rear cab support on the upper flange of the right side frame rail.
On P series its on the right side frame railapproxamately 4 inches to the rear of the front crossmember.

This clears it up for the 65's...

yeah I've always thought that the stamping was forward of the cross member and scraped and looked for it for some time. Was pleasantly surprised to see it to the rear of the cross member. Also glad to see that everything matched!

This site has been so helpful that I figure that I'd post a bit of info to help the next person looking.
Thanks
