And this definately needs to be replaced? Could i have caused major damage to the motor by driving that far (nearly 90 miles back home) with this piece broken?
No damage, but Im suprised the CEL didnt come on. Those things can make a h**l of a lot of noise when they come loose.
By alot of noise, do you mean like the raspy sound that i was describing or "alot of noise" as in throwing codes from the computer? I ask this because i had this tube removed before i went on my drive and the noise didnt start until about 70-80 miles down the road...
Should sound like a exhaust leak, but it would be making noise at idle too. Didnt read that you had already disconnected it, sorry. You need to pull the old fitting out of the back of the head and put a pipe plug in the port if you dont plan on reconnecting the thermactor (air pump) sys.

Will disconnecting the thermactor system hurt my gas mileage in anyway?
Dont think it will have too much effect on MPG, but if you live anywhere that tests emissions sys., you better piece it back together. If not, tear away. But heed the advise on this forum about disabling emiss. controls and the effects on the computer and how to avoid.
The noise almost sounds like it is coming from somewhere underneath the truck because when you are sitting in the truck, I think it is coming from inbetween the bed and the cab. Transmission problem here? I checked the fluid, it was fine, not burnt or even discolored.
Sounds like a good direction to look into. C6's are pretty tough, but they do wear out eventually.
But definately get that air pipe fixed first, or at least cap it off to rule out air noise.

They do emissions testing around here, but its registered as a commercial vehicle, so it doesnt need to be tested. The cat's coming off sooner or later because its almost rusted through. The pipe on top of the cat going back to the motor is rusted off anyways...
Does it have a "rotating" sound to it? I've heard cracked flexplates make a lot of noise when revved, but never saw one that caused a miss. Just something else to think about.

I took the plate off the trans to actually check this one out because this had happened to one of my buddies trucks. The plate looked alright all around...
Thats an air check valve that broke off,the threaded end is still in the cross-over tube on the back side of the heads,
Is there an easy way to get to this spot? I have been looking around here and there on the motor, but i can't find the place where it was broken off at... as anyone replaced/capped one of these before?
Your truck should have 2 of those check valves, one on the crossover tube to pump air into the exhaust ports from the back of the heads and one on the end of the small tube that runs down to the exaust pipe. If its on the crossover you`ll need to get to the bolts on the back off the heads to take it off, then you can replace/plug the holes on the heads

Cant really get back behind the motor to see behind the heads, so idk if the hose was on the crossover, or the one coming down the exhause(to the cat?)...
