97 f150, 4x4, 5.4,auto ,transfer case shifter on floor.
now i have replaced the oil switch and repaired 2 vac. lines. had the truck on a lift and watched the actuator on the front axle move back and forth. had to drive through a lot of mud to get to job site this morning. sunk 1/2 way through. pulled the stick 4x4 light comes on but the front axle does not engage. manage to get out in 2wd. when i get home i jack the front end up , start the truck and pull the stick. the actuator on the front axle moves but i can spin both front tires freely. anybody have any ideas??? thanks in advance
Is the transfer case engaging and turning the front drive shaft? If so and the actuator moves and doesn't engage the axle, the axle shift fork must be bad.
finally fixed it this morning, the previous owner had pulled the vac. lines off the front axle to test the actuator, he put them back on backward. all is well.
