Its been a while since I've last posted but a new question has popped up.
I just bought an F350 4x4 cab and chassis dually that I suspect has mismatched axle ratios. I've tried counting the drive shaft/ wheel rotation thing and it is too broad a measure. The truck is the 80-86 body style. The tag on the door jamb says it is a 1980 with an axle code 27 which does not appear in any of my books. The VIN is F37ECHHO3?? with the last two characters being either 33 or 38 or 88. Pretty sure it is 33. Ford has been no use (oh, big surprise). Any help would be great.
I suspect the rear axle was replaced at some point with a different gear ratio so I would like to swap the front to match.
Thanks,
John
Most common gear ratios are either 3.55 or 4.10 so the drive shaft is either going to turn roughly 3 1/2 times or 4. Mark one ear with chalk and turn a wheel while it's jacked up.
