Weird Vibration

I know this has been posted before and I have read the previous posts.

I have an 02 X with about 98K miles on her and I recently noticed a constant vibration coming from the front end starting around 45 MPH and stays constant until around 75 MPH. There isn't any steering wheel shake until I go to stop and it is pretty bad. From your experiences I was wondering what you think it could be.

Also I just recently towed a 25 ft toy hauler from Cali to Virginia. Do you think that could have anything to do with it? The truck did perfect the whole way just to mention.

Are your wheels balanced? That sounds almost text book of what happens when they are not. Also check the wear on your tires and see if they are wearing evenly, if the suspension is sagging you may need an alignment as well.

I agree with the warped rotors from what you are describing, Did the toy hauler have brakes? how hard did you have to stop etc..?Could be a broken belt in the radial tire? could be wheel bearing?

My truck hasn't has a driving related vibration or shutter since I put the Power Slots on. OEM rotors are notorious for warping.

My wheels are balanced, unless I just threw a weight. Also my tires are brand new along with the suspension.

Would warped rotors cause vibration that bad at those speeds? I do believe that it could happen when braking. I have a brake controller for towing and I don't break very hard either.

I am looking into some different rotors but I am unsure of what kind. Maybe that will fix the problem.

First I would try to get the tires rebalanced since you said you just got new tires, it is very possible a weight might have came off... what is all new on the suspension??wheel bearings?? ball joints??... if your rotors are warpped it will shake like crazy when you hit the brakes and it can make the steering wheel shake to when pressing the brakes....

Ok an update to this post. I asked my friend that is a mehanic for GM to ride along with me. I just wanted another opinion from somebody that deals with stuff like this everyday.

We rode around with the hubs unlocked and locked and the vibration was still there. It really didn't make a difference either way. He was saying it could possible be one of the bearings that is causing the vibration. It was still resonating through the whole truck and I am hinking I am going to take it to the dealership so I can hopefully get an idea and I hope I don't get the typical run around from a dealership.

If anybody else could maybe give me an idea what to look for I would appreciate it.

check them rotors first!!!

ive never had a problem with mine but does anyone know a way to check em for goodness? like maybe put a straight edge on em or somthing? all it takes to look at em is taking the tire off which is pretty damn easy

as for balancing.....i dont recomend regular wheel weights...as the tire wears it will get outa balance or the weights could even fall off. Ide suggest moving onto a powder balance media or even centramatic wheel balancing(ive got these babies and they work great!)

never have to pay for balancing again and it dosnt just balance the tire....it balances the whole end of the axle that spins with the tire up to a certain weight and dont gota worry about it falling off!

Centramatic Wheel Balancers

Well after doing some research on FTE all night last night I found that there is a possible recall on the hubs on my X. I have to call the company Federal-Mogul and see if my truck falls in the 130,000 units affected.

So hopefully it will be and I can get this fixed.

Centramatic Wheel Balancers

I am going to replace the rotors no matter what anyways because I feel that it is time to do so. But it just feels like there is something else that is causing that vibration so I am going to jack up each side and check the hub.

I am pretty sure that is it. There is a recall on the hubs from Federal-Mogul so hopefully my truck will be covered.

I am going to check out those Centramatic Wheel Balncers though. They sound pretty good.
