I wasn't really sure what was the best place to post this, but I figured it's as good as any.
I was wandering through big lots the other day when I found these lights:
They were labeled as "Wireless LED accent spotlights." After I looked at them for a couple minutes, I thought, I bet these would work nicely for toolbox lights!
So, I took them home and opened them up- and man these things are perfect for that. For starters, they run off three AAA batteries so they'll probably go forever on those. They will also swivel in any direction and you can aim the light itself. And, they came with adhesive velcro pads...so, if you needed light somewhere else, you could just pull the light off.
Oh, and I got a set of three for $13
Here's a couple pics of them installed...considering I took these in the dead of night with my camera phone (which has no flash) I'd say they work very well! I still have one light left, not sure what to do with it at the moment.
That's probably the only place I haven't thought of using these lights....probably since I don't have a toolbox on my truck. I have similar lights to those all over my house and garage - they are great. And since they are LED the batteries last a long time.
That's a great idea... where did you find them? I'd like a couple of sets, really... the back of my Bronco gets pretty dark, and I have a toolbox in the Ranger's bed that could really use more light.
I hope your big lots stores are more organized than my local one. the store here looks like they just threw the stuff on the shelves wherever they had room. no ryme or reason and good luck finding something.
Big lots tries to organize. All the automotive is one place, tools in another and so on. Thats about as complex as it gets. There could be trash bags on the same shelf with batteries on the same shelf as paper plates. The best thing to do is just go in and look around. You'll be amazed.
I think part of big lot's problem is the fact that people think it DOESN'T matter if they make a mess...so people open packages, throw stuff all over, and make a big mess.
Ours is usually pretty organized, although yesterday I was with my girlfriend and she was trying to look at curtains which they had on a shelf. They had so many stuffed on the shelf that the rail fell off the shelf and packages of drapes went everywhere, all over the floor. Sheesh.
BTW I found these lights in the same aisle as the extension cords, power strips, and regular light bulbs.
