gcozmo, good to hear that you had the problem looked after. Like I mentioned it sounded the same as the problem I had. At least you had a Dealer that looked into your complaint, I would buy from them again, as it seems they want repeat customers.

sounds like we all have the same noise. I've had mine for a year and it has 65000 on it. I was told it was the injecters. I learned to live with it I guess.

I took it in a couple days later and dropped it off and went back today and picked it up. I will have to admit this thing is much quieter. I am not sure whether it was just a bad batch of lifters or what but they fixed it right up. I would suggest that if you have a question of whether yours makes more noise than you think it should then I would run it by the dealership and ask.

Wow! What did that cost you if you don't mind my asking?

Most of the time it is the injectors. Don't misunderstand about the noise that I had. Mine has a injector noise as well that you can hear very plainly if you stick your head down near the fender well when it is running, heck you don't even have to put your head down, you can hear it just walking by. The noise that I had was a loud peck on both sides of the engine that you could here across a small parking lot when I would leave it running to go in to a store or something.

Anyone ever try any additives on these mod motors. Zmax, Rizlone, etc. or are these just for the older conventional motors?

I have been running super gas in my truck for the past 10 months and it really toned the noise down. The additives in reg gas just is not like it used to be... It is worth the extra few dollers that it is at fill up. Just try it guys for a few tank fulls and then post your results.

Your tick ticking is most likely the cam phasers. My 04 did it as well and only did once it was at running temperature. It wont hurt your vehicle to leave it alone, but its mostly annoying. I actually brought my truck back to the dealer and for $1200 got the phasers replaced with the newer updated ones. Sounds a little extreme but i cannot stand any kinds of noises or rattles when im driving. (The guys that sell the sound denting material matting must love me by now) .......Advice: get a loud stereo!

The 5.4 is a overhead cam engine, which tells you it does not have pushrod's,hence it would not have lifter's. The 5.4 like most overhead cam engines use hyd. lash adjuster's on the rocker arm. They can and will bleed down and often pump back up when ever.,(different RPM"S, temps, etc.) My 06' 5.4---120,000 miles has this ticking noise plus several other ones> The phaser's advance or retard cam timing and this will also cause simular noise's. My problem noise is a low, hard, hollow, thunking on left side. The engine runs fine, but is losing power at times,no smoking,or smells. With all of the other noise's and power loss I am thinking of just replacing engine. I just thought you should get more than 3 year's and a 100,000 miles out of an engine.

I have a 2004 F150 FX4 that I purchased new in Aug of 04. After apprx 2 years it began to make a ticking noise similar to a lifter noise too. I checked this forum and found that there was a TSB regarding a "cam sensor" I believe. I took it to the dealer gave the the TSB number and they replaced the sensor no charge. It took care of the noise. I apologize b/c I don't remember the exact post or TSB number but it was here on this thread.

hydualic lifters are on the 06 modular 3v, had the ones the mechanic replaced in my hands. The loss of power is my issue is it a stuck valve if I kick it down to passing gear or even just try to get quick of the line it sounds like it loads up untill i let off a bit then it clears up,Im not driving it hard either.
