Hi all, I am looking for a place that can sell or make me a soft tonneau cover for my 54 Merc. I think the box is an odd size (54 inches wide). Anybody have any sources? Thanks and happy new year!
There used to be an advertisement here on FTE for a shop who made them, but of course I can't find it now.
I would think that any local upholstery shop would be able to make you something custom and very nice.
If I come across that advertisement, I'll get back to you.
In the mean time I found a thread with a few suggestions and a link to a company that makes them, owned by an FTE Member. He's in the thread. Also someone suggested checking in with "Mid Fifties" (I checked and yep it looks like they have some - LMC has a kit too - I stopped looking after those two).
I had one made for a 97 step side before the aftermarket had any available. It was mad by a guy who makes boat covers so the tarp was actually a lot thicker than one usually made for a truck. Check the yellow pages for boating supply places.
Saw Dave's thread and decided I would post some pic's of the one I bought from Mid Fifty. It is a velcro model and I was fairly dissapointed. Maybe I just don't grasp the installation, but I cannot see how you would install it and have the rear flap fit correctly. I guess if you put the side rail strip of Velcro up higher it might allow enough slack, but I would not install it at all if that was the correct way. My plan is to see if a local shop will add to the rear panel so that it can attach to tailgate with snaps. Maybe just have one made locally. Joe
I really like Jaye's, but I don't want a hard cover and I want it to seal out water. I don't know what happened to my pictures. I previewed the post and they were there, but dissappeared before I submitted it? Now I can not upload them at all. Oh well, if I can later I will. Joe
Another try at pictures. Ok, looks like I tried to upload all three instead of one at a time, I guess. Here they are, see previous post for issues. Joe
It appears you have the wrong cover; I've seen the soft ones before where the gap is in the back a piece that is angled on both sides is suppose to go down to the tailgate. and attach
Jaye that tab is there, just hard to see in the pics. There is no way there is enough material for it to reach it's attachment point. Maybe I will send these to MF and see what they think. Joe
Do they make the ''roll top cover'' for the 53-72 bed? The one I had was for a 78 and was great, and sturdy, and rolled-up to use my 5th wheel plate.
Bill
Not the best of fit but it should fit better than that. I used press studs for both ends and the Velcro for the sides. The Velcro I found moves after a while on the ends with the constant pressure from the tightness of the cover.
