So, its was 40 degrees this morning. When I woke up, I realized "damn, I forgot to plugg the truck up last night." Normally, I would have to pull the wife's mini van to my truck's front bumper and and charge it for an hour or so. Not this time this time I was ready. I go outside armed with my wife's hair dryer, pull the AEM Brute Air filter off, turn the dryer on and stick it in the intake. I get it, damn waiting on the glow plug light, I'm starting thing thing. The batteries were very weak, 4 cranks and the batteries were almost gone. The 5th crank was a chug, the 6th nothing. Right when I was giving up, she cranked. "Hell, yeah!" I screamed!
The moral of the story is; your wife hair dryer will start your truck. LOL Its like a hotstart on an F18. LMAO
Look, it's like this. I'm from Detroit so no, 40 isn't cold to me. I should've wrote "colder than normal". To the locals its cold as *****, but I leave the house without a coat. But according to my batteries and engine its cold enough to leave the glow plugs on for 15 sec.
thats the best ive heard. my block plug isnt working due to a bad cord. the local dealers are all out of stock and was told the ford parts system is backlogged for the cord.we have had -15degrees and lower this year. havent plugged in yet. starts in the morning but idles like garbage. this is the last diesel for sure! i pray for 40 degrees in the winter so i can wear shorts to work

What kind of oil are you using?
My 07 idles great on cold starts with Valvoline Premium Blue Extreme 5w-40 Synthetic.
Haven't hit -15*F, but we've been below 0*F.
When you guys are saying it idles great at these really low temps, it makes me think that there is a little something off with my 07. If I don't have it plugged in and it is in the 20's it sounds like crap right when it first starts then it idles fine just louder after about 2 seconds.
When I used Rotella 15w-40 all my trucks idled like crap below freezing.....Much better on Valvoline Premium Blue 15w-40. And super smooth on Valvoline Premium Blue Extreme 5w-40 synthetic.
I'm not sure which oil is in now. i had it done at the ford dealer. its too cold in my garage to work on it. this afternoon when i left work, it took three trys to start and it was a balmy 25 degrees out. im wonering if i have other issues with it. i'm using power service with fill up. not really running great this winter, however it starts in minus temps without plugging in. i did just but an oil pan heater off of ebay, waiting for that to come.
You guys are killing me. I don't plug mine in till its below zero. its -45'F here right now expected to get down to -60'F tonight. I got her plugged in right now.
