I thought I had my current problem licked via de-icing the air flow snout, but the truck still is running rough. Mileage seems to be back up, along with power, but I would almost swear that the truck is missing during idle. Cold idle or hot idle does not seem to be any different. Starts fine and seems to run fine on the highway. Just learning, any thoughts?
gday fred
the only time i have seen a diesel miss is when my mates hilux (toyota) had a cloged injector it would run fine on the highway but idle really ruff, that could be something to look at.
im no expert but thats the first thing that came to mind.
cheers
josh
Could be a weak injector... you could always do a buzz test to find out if all the injector are performing properly... Or it could just be paranoia. Every now and then i will start to think that my motor has a miss. All and all i would say that these motors tend to run a little inconsistently, but by a very small margin.

+1.
It's happened to me with both my Excursion and my 250. It makes me shake my head because I know everything is fine, but ida swore the engine just had a slight miss.
Have you had the CPS recall done? The gray CPS from Ford has been known to cause a rough idle (slight miss).
If you do a buzz test, try and get it done on a cold engine. If there's a problem with a sticking poppet, that usually will show up on a cold injector first. You can also get a CCT on a warm engine or read the rotational velocity numbers to see if there's an issue since the buzz test only looks at part of the injector.
I have only seem them miss when cold after just being started. I started my old stroker at 8 degrees and it rocked from side to side and the tach jumped from 500 to 1000 rpm several times.
