Thumbs down Throttle Lag

How can you remove the throttle lag on a 2006 F-150 with the 5.4? The throttle by wire lag is terrible.

My wife thinks I'm crazy, but I have noticed that too. Its seems way worse on my '06 5.4L than out '04 Explorer 4.6L. I hate how it cancels out the quick motions in the gas pedal. I want it to rev, but the drive by wire says NO!

So a programmer will help this? I think I found something else to spend out tax return on LOL.

you can ask your dealer if a newer PCM flash is available....but a programmer is the best fix overall

Edge/Gryphon is the most popular, and most user friendly

they all do the same thing overall. besides, with the Edge, it's a plug n' play setup. Some of the others require custom tuning

Doesn't one of the site sponsors sell the Edge? If I buy one, it will be from them .

Would the PCM flash cost anything? I'm out of warranty so I'm skittish to go to the dealer.

yes to both questions

roughly $50-100 for a reflash depending on the dealer...$400 with free priority shipping for the Edge

DO NOT PAY OVER $400 for the Edge. There is a price collusion thing going on, so they cannot sell it for under $400. But sellers can offer free shipping to add some incentive

As most have already mentioned, some sort of flash programmer will eliminate 95% of the lag along with quicker shifts among other things as well. Nothing wrong with Edge but also look into SCT X3 as it’s very flexible and can be updated in the future for other Ford Vehicles.

See here for our end of year promo https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/7...y-savings.html

try this, while laying on floor looking up push up on the gas pedel find the cable and look at the slack you have. See the cable end and the crimped on stop, add another stop. I used a wire connector, cut off the end that you crimp around the wire open it up to fit over the cable and clamp it down, use a block to hold up on the pedel. Some cables have one inch of slack. You may have to use several back to back so it won't slip., or you can use wire ties choked down back to back (easier if you want to remove) takes about ten min. TRY IT YOU JUST MIGHT LIKE IT response is very touchy

Yeah, I have tried that. But it was in my 1993 Mustang GT. There was almost an inch of slack. After I put the wire ties on, the gas pedal was about 3 inches higher than the brake pedal. It was hard to transition from the brake to gas, as I had to concsiously lift my foot to clear the gas pedal. I ended up taking the wire ties off after only one day. But WOT was alot better!

you may not notice that big a difference in your truck (more leg room) plus an inch is alot, plastic ties may be the way to go for a first time

Another vote here for the Gryphon. Check this site out.

www.powerhungryperformance.com

I am running a custom high performance tune and virtually have no throttle lag and outstanding performance. It really wakes the truck up.

The programmer loads a new program into your trucks engine control module(ecm) through the obdII port under the steering wheel. It will take Fords original programming and store it for you in the actual tuner. When you go back to the dealer you simply upload the original program and your back to stock. Very simple.
