Diesel is down, need help

hey everyone, i hadn been on here in a while, i lost one of my best friends on December 18, my 1300.00 ride aint doing well any more, it first blew the o-rings on the passenger side cylinder head. now its ticking real loud, exhaust sounds, and blowing alot of smoke out of the tail pipe and dripping oil again out the back, i cant seem to find it. Im gonna try to look in the morning. Which ever moron owned this truck before let the air box get damaged and the motor is going out any pointers on trying to see if it will make it though

Thanks for your help.
God Bless and Hope everyone has a good and safe new years.

Wesley sorry to hear about you friend... Just know that he is in a better place!

Sounds like you have a sticky injector to me... I would try a buzz test.

Pull the oil fill cap and start the truck. Are you getting a strong puff, puff, puff you can feel with your hand, or just a little smoke?

Then it sounds like you already know what needs to be done. How long are you trying to get by with this? They make those little ***** that can be dropped down on top of the piston that are supposed to help seal the rings, but I don't know if they would stand up to a diesel compression. They didn't do that much on an old gasser.

The block may still be re-buildable now. Keep pushing it, and who knows. Sorry.

Time for a compression test. Not much use in guessing until that's done.

Don't forget to take pictures along the way. We love pictures.

This was the one with mud in the intake right? Looks like powerstrokeshop.com sells an overhaul kit for under $1k.

Yeah thats the one. I cant rebuild it now but i will later on this next year. i been changing the oil real early to prevent any more damage to it. The blow by was real bad when i first got it but its not to bad anymore. it turned out to be the valve covers came unplugged again causing it to not start. But while its apart im replacing my Y pipes cause they leaked real bad. is there an easy way to do that? and im having a fit trying to get the turbo clamps off of the exhaust side is there a way to get those off to.

Not a super hard job, but frustrating & time consuming:

Welcome to Pocket's International UP-Pipe Replacement Web Page

If you're going to be pulling the engine, you might REALLY want to wait and do the up-pipes then. It'll be a piece of cake then.
