last year at this exact time(cold weather)any time we turned our steering wheel we would hear an awful screeching noise. the mechanic stated it was probably our pittman arm but once they got in & looked at it, they stated it was our idle arm. Now at this same exact time of year again, i took our truck in today for the same exact noise. now they are stating it is not the idle arm but the pittman arm. is anyone else having this same problem with their f150? we do know someone else who is also experiencing this same problem with their f150. any recalls that anyone knows about? should the pittman arm be included in the warranty on my idle arm?
Not to be a wise guy, but did you check the power steering belt? Is it tight enough? Some brands of belts will squeel in cold weather. Get some belt dressing and try it.
i've gotta agree with nathan, check the belt and pulley. the question remains as to when the noise actually occurs?
is it only when turning sharply, or gradual turns?
sharp turns put load on steering pump and components more than gradual turns. check belts for tension and glazing.
the other possibility is if tie rod ends are dry and rubbing, but i think this would grind, not squeel.
