Pittman arm or idle arm?

I am hearing a grinding noise coming from around my pittman arm and idle arm area. Has anyone experience this problem? Any suggestions? I have a 1997 f150. HELP!

Pittman arm or idle arm?

For me it was the Pitman arm but I have seen others here blaming the idler arm. I had access to a mechanical stethoscope and I was able to get my son to rotate the steering wheel back and forth while I probed around until I found where the noise was the loudest.
