Rear Disc Conversion

Well, not sure where to post this, so I'm starting here. I have a 1993 F150 2WD that I am wanting to convert over to rear disc brakes. I'm pretty green when it comes to this kind of stuf, so any help or advice would be greatly appriciated.

1. What all parts will I need? (rotors, calipers, ??)
2. Is this a bolt-on swap, or will fabrication be needed?
3. What veicles can I scour in the junkyards for donor parts?

If anyone has already done a similar swap, did you run into any unforeseen problems, and how did you work around them? Thanks in advance for your help.

This is a bolt on kit that will run you about 800 dollars. I haven't used this particular kit, but I have had good luck with SSB in the past.

traildawg, i gotta ask why you are doing this swap?
is it for looks? is it for performance?
if for performance, i would try putting in better brake shoes before spending money on these kits. the drums work well until they get really hot and start to expand. it takes a lot of braking to get to this point.
if you do lots of downhill wheeling or towing they might be worth it. otherwise, save the bucks for something else.

Rear Disc Conversion

Bravo BillyB,

I drive a 1970 F-100 2wd that sucker has Drums on all 4 wheels.

I prefer drums over disc. If you adjust them the correct way, and bleed the lines correctly, they will stop a vehicle just as good as a Disc brake. I mean after all I am not racing down the streets with this truck.. 8>)

Stay with the Drums in the Back!

Uzi... Yamaha Sleds, Honda Bikes, and Ford Trucks....

uzi, i had drums all around on cj5 for 120,000 miles and i agree with you. keep them adjusted and you usually won't have problems. i also have found that people are more inclined to have drums turned or to replace them if they are scored than they are to remove calipers and have them turned.
this is a dangerous choice, but i have seen lots of pad only disc brake" jobs", but few drum types this way, because they don't work too well if not done right.
