I replaced the windshield and rubber on my ´66 two years ago. I got the advice to buy the rubber at DC and let proffesionals do the installation of the windshield. Today I am glad I took the advice from this forum.
Cool thanks for the info. On the chrome, I have to install it before I put the windshield in from what I've heard. Is this the way you were trying? A far as getting the old one out it's about to fall out i'm always afraid if I hit the brakes too hard it's gonna go flying.LOL

Its been a dozen years since I did one with the trim, but:
1. Seal around windshield
2. Trim into seal, (the tough part)
3. mount into cab
The problem might have been the after market seal. I, for the life of me, can't remember where I got it from
I also looked at the link that daveengelson posted, thats pretty straight foward and informative.
I don't know why so many folks are scared to do it, its fairly easy.
I know I worked for Mazda for a while and replaced alot of windows mostly rear sliders but the same concept. I figure if I try it and it works then I've accomplished something and if it turns out to be a disaster I'll have Safelite do it. And be pissed off while i'm wearing my goggles in the rain driving to Auburn.
Bill I will give you credit for knowing your part numbers, but what's your point on this one?
Dennis Carpenter of Concord NC has a very long standing reputation for making the best replacement rubber for our trucks that can be found. They have been making rubber replacement parts in NC for years.
John
Have you actually seen the place in NC where DC makes this rubber? I know it's not at his HQ in Concord, because I toured the entire complex.
I went to DC in June 2004, as I was in the area, attending the annual Studebaker Drivers Club car show/swap meet that was held in Charlotte this year.
I spent quite a few bucks buying NOS and repro parts from DC for my two 1963 Galaxies. The plastic bags the front and back glass w/strips came in had little glued on tags that said MADE IN CHINA!
The repro FORD Galaxie hood letters are advertised as being made from original tooling, these came in a plastic bag...and had the same tag on it.
I know that DC makes the finest quality repro parts, and uses the original tooling. But when you consider the labor costs in the US compared to China...where do you think the original tooling is?
DC makes 1000's of repro parts from original tooling...where are they made?
He would need a building the size of Lowes Motor Speedway to make all this stuff...and there's no building at his Concord location anywhere near that size.
Bill, Most of us don't live the privileged perfect life that you do.
How many years has it been since Ford produced a windshield gasket for these trucks?John
The part numbers and description are still listed on Ford's website, so that means that sometime in the past three years is when Ford obsoleted them.
Maybe you missed it: Post #9. I found one each of these weatherstrips at two Ford dealers, so there are still some Genuine Ford parts around.
I didn't check the obsolete parts vendors website, because there's no way to know if the w/strips they have are genuine Ford, DC's, whatever.
As far as my priviledged perfect world, I have garages full of NOS Ford parts because I used to wheel and deal in this stuff, and I'm always on the look out for more.
I see peeps crying for the 352 accelerator cables. I have several NOS, because I planned ahead, and bought them when they were still available.
I found two around 6 monthd ago at a dealer in GA. I posted the info here, then said y'all have 24 hours to buy them, or I'm buying them.
When I called the dealer the next day...both had been sold.
I coulda said nothing and bought them, then charged a FAT price when someone needed one...but I didn't do that.
I find all sorts of stuff at dealers, obsolete parts vendors...and pass the info along.
I remember when YOU emailed me and wanted a Cougar heater core...I found it for you, didn't I.
Bill
The only thing that worries me is how long have these gaskets been sitting at ford? They're probably on their way to rotting already kinda like buying a set of tires that's been sitting for 10-15 yrs you put them on rims and they crack apart. Just a thought.

The w/strips came in sealed bags, and have a coating on them to protect them from rot.
This is the same stuff the new vehicles use. You rub it with your finger, it comes off.
Besides...these may not have been there that long, because they've only been obsolete for several years.
I just bought three NOS vent window w/strips from a local dealer...they look OK to me.
I listed the info...waited a coupla days, then called...no one had bought them, so I did. The total price for all three was less than 50 bucks.
I bought two for Don, the other is for anyone that wants it...and I'm not a price gouger...all I want is my money back.
No Bill, I don't have a Cougar. I did ask about a FE pcv hose and recall that you said there were none. I found one, works fine.
I will do some further investigation, but I believe Dennis Carpenter does not make anything that is still made from Ford. Dennis has been making windshield rubber for years.
I'll have to take your word for what is still on Fords website.
