My brother was driving my truck back from a riding trip we had gone on,he was pulling my trailer full of goodies, he was taking off from a light when the driveshaft u joints broke, the driveshaft completely broke off from the truck,it broke off right at the spline and the rear joint,my question is could this have been caused by the tranny taking a dump or just from to much tourqe and where can I get a driveshaft or have this one repaired in arizona, glendale?
You could always get a new drive shaft from a dealer, but would be lots of $$ and probably aren't open until Monday. That is probably the case with most any shop.
I'm not from your neck of the woods, but I would look up in the yellow pages for a driveline/hydraulic shop and take all the pieces to. I would also take the shaft from the tranny/transfer case and the carrier bearing. Let them make a whole new driveline and balance it. It may cost more, but you will be glad you spent the money. Ask them specifically how to install the driveline. I could try to explain it on here, but it would be easier for someone to show you with the driveline in hand.
I cant see why the trans would have an effect on on it. Its probably caused by flooring it from a dead stop or while you have a load behind it. How many miles on the truck?
the trailer is a 25 ft Forest River Sandpiper, dry it weighs about 10,500,but I had a yamaha rhino and two 50cc quads in it,and my truck is lifted with 38 inch tires, pulled the trailer plenty of times with no problems,I think it was just driver error,oh and the truck has 130,000 on it,thanks guys
thats alot of weight, multiplied by the larger tires. the drive shaft may have been the weak link. it almost sounds like you had a bad u joint and it took out the d-shaft. eather way you need a new set up. get one custom built. worth the money. tell your bro to put his lighter sneaks on next time. if you hammer these trucks with a load on it always costs. but thats how we learn...lol
cheers
