I have an 05 PSD.. don't know anything about hubs.. my hubs does not turn manuely.. Looking to replace them with Warn hubs, but went to their website and they don't offer for 05 excursion. Also, can I still use the Shift on Fly after I change to an aftermarket hubs? Thanks..
You might try doing this once a year. click here. Yes you can use your ESOF switch after changing to manual hubs. Just make sure you plug the vacuum lines going into the hubs and going to the solenoid. The switch will only operate the motor on the transfer case to allow you to go into 4x4 hi and 4x4 low.
I have heard that there is no hubs for the 05' up. I don't really know.
If you search FTE you will find a lot of info on changing to Warn hubs. Warn Part# 38826 should work, at least it did in my 03. I am fairly certain all years of excursion have the same D50 front axle as we did not get the upgrade to D60 when the SuperDuty's did.
Your transfer case will still shift on the fly, but you will have to manually lock your hubs.
So I have warn hubs, and I've got a question about them.
I have a small tree farm out in East Texas, and I am frequently on and off of paved roads, and its a PITA to have to lock/unlock the hubs every time I take a paved road to get from one part of the property to another. I know the 4x4 system is not designed for dry pavement, because it binds. However, can I leave the hubs engaged as long as I disengage the Tcase using the inside switch?
Theoretically, this should be fine, because the front diff is open, so each axleshaft can rotate at whatever speed it wants to, independent of the other one, as long as the Tcase isnt engaged, binding everything up. Is this correct, or am I all confused. I'd rather not grenade a Tcase or any other component if I can help it.
You are correct, as long as you don't have a locker in the front diff then you will have no problem leaving the hubs locked on pavement if you are in 2wd.
I do the same thing here in NW Indiana, especially when we have bad weather forecast (Every other day!), so all I do is hit the 4x4 switch on the dash. I lose 1-1/2 MPG, but it's worth it.
