Different style X-pipes??? Need help!

I'm going with a X-pipe but do not know which style to get.

This one is made by Pypes. Notice this one is made form 4 pipes.

Or this one that is made from 2 pipes

Is there a difference in those two X-pipe in performance/sound?

I like the look of the second one. I'll be making my own Y-Pipe based on that design.

I like the first one personally. Has a more clean look to it IMO.

As far as sound goes, I can't see either of those styles changing much if at all. There both doing the same thing.

Go with the second it will both flow better and sound better. There are three reasons;

First the flows merge for a longer period this tends to remove the uneven sound you get with duals.

Socond the angels the pipes mee at is shallower that will help merge the flow rather then jam it together resulting in better performance, and sound

Third crosssection area during the time the flows are merged is larger, resulting in better flow.

But with all that in mind a big single, bringing the pipes together in a big pipe for at least the period between a Y pipe to the headers/manifolds and to a single entry on the muffler is a better choice for the same reasons. That is unless all your after is a look or a thumpy uneven sound.

Hope this helps.

I gotta agree with ya. BTW What are you running in your F350? It seems that no one makes a system for the pre '87 460 trucks. My F250 w/460 has dual inlet/single outlet muffler. I plan to fab up a nice Y-Pipe and run a 3" cat-back system with dual tail pipes.

I haven't had my F350 long, it still has a 2.5" true dual system (no cats) a PO had installed. I hate the way it sounds but my brother loves that uneven thumpy sound like a Harley.

When I get around to an exhaust it will deffenitly be longtube headers (I like the Hedman Elites) to an equal length Y pipe, I build my own using manderal 2.5" "U"s and I make the Y pipe by cutting a "U" in half and then cutting the legs so I can weld them together in a bell/cone shape so that the area where the two flows merge is about 2.5" and then it bells out to 3". This creates a venturi effect that helps the pulses from the two sides come together like a zipper and the previous pulse helps pull the next. Next at least 4 feet of 3" pipe so allow the flow to merge before the muffler. I don't know which muffler yet I don't like most mufflers that just use baffles, I hate the way they resonate. I really liked the old Edelbrock RPM mufflers but am not sure they make them any more. They are a thru design that makes the flow go around a perferated serface full of glass, they flow great, take out all the sharp tones, and leave all the low rumble. Next ending with a single 4" tailpipe dumping before the left rear tire. The size of the pipe after the muffler can/should be as large and short as desired, I want to pipe it out the side cause I hate breathing exhaust when working at the tailgate, the truck is long enough I won't smell it in the cab, I won't have to go around the rear axle, and I want to be able to see it while I'm driving to help me tune.

I hope this little essay helps.

I vote the second one as well. Both are good, but the second is better made. Also, with the first, the welds may be protruding into the exhaust stream somewhat, making for potential turbulence.

What do yall think. My truck has 2" exhaust piping, and I have a hard time finding 2.25 mufflers that I want (going with Spintech super pro street or Pypes violator) Should I just up grade to 2.25 or 2.5 exhaust piping? Is 2.5 to big?
thanks
By the way the truck is a 1993 f150 with a mustang 5.0.

Is the truck otherwise stock? Why those mufflers there both expensive and loud? Are you after a look? Are you after a sound?
