started developing a tick dependent with the full rpm range, starts strong then weakens but never goes away, checked all my studs and the manifolds no appparent cracks, no missing studs, everything is very clean a well taken care of truck, sound seems to be the strongest under the truck beneath the engine, havent been able to pin point it quite yet. anything that you all have heard of its pretty annoying
I have a 2002 F-150 with the 4.6 and it started making the same sounds a few years ago. I had my mechanic look at it and he could not see any broken manifold studs or any indication of an exhaust leak. But he admitted it sure sounded like it. This year I don't have that noise . The only difference is I've been running an oil and fuel additive on a regular basis since June of this year. I've owned the truck since new. It only has 39,000+ miles on it. But they are mostly secondary road trips, 10 miles, and highway. Very few "local" short runs. I've always used Motrcraft 5w-20 and filters and changed them at a MAXIMUM of 5,000 miles. It's just weird!
thanks alot Whimsey what kind of additives did you use and how much of each, ive used motorcraft 5w20 synthetic, with a motorcraft filter, ive used Seafoam in the gas tank and in the vacuum booster line, truck has about 86,000 miles on it.thanks for all your help.
my buddy has an 01 F150 4x4 5.4L with headers into a cat and that's it. he bought used ceramic coated headers off ebay. he put them on. not 1 year after he put them on he started getting an exhaust leak. he's had it ever since. it's so annoying, just click click click.
