Some tuners you have to break out the box and go thru the hassle of resetting your level, like on my Diablosport Predator. I had to pull over, shut the truck down, plug it in, key on, key off like 10 times, than start it up about 5 minutes later.
NOW, with my DP Tuner, if I need a few extra ponys, I just hit a button, and away I go-
You have to stop, turn truck off, turn key to on position, select new tune, wait 3-5 minutes for it to reflash your PCM with new code (if it doesnt lock up and have to reboot), turn key to off, turn key to on and wait for confimation, then start truck and go.
The Edge set at its highest setting is like having a DP Tuner in the 80e setting. I had one for about 3 years is why I know. But you can do so much more with the Dp Tuner. Like custom settings, shift on the fly, and even use it as a theft device(taking the controller with you). That is just of the simple things that they offer. I don't really plan on doing much more to my truck, but the option is always there just in case I do. Plus the 140 smoke is kinda like having the Edge with a spray of NOS on it.....
I had both The Evo and J/A. Sold the J/A for my Dp and kept the Evo for code pulling and the little extra guages in the unit. I went through 2 trannys with the Edge stuff. they do absolutely nothing to help the trans, unlike the Dp, Jody can program the shift points. So far, have not had a problem. My BTS has lasted much longer than my second ever did. 8 months and still going just fine.
maybe someday ill recover finances enough from this winter to get something better than the superchips that was in my truck when i got it lol. till then i live like a broke man. this year/winter has been expensive
I have had an Edge Evolution for a couple of years now. It does OK and gives me a bit more power. Changing tunes is a hassle and not like the DP. I have never liked the way the transmission shifts while in one of the Edge tunes.
The Edge will soon be going "bye bye" and I will be getting a DP as soon as finances improve.
I got my Edge Evo for Christmas last year and I've had 0 issues with it. Compared to stock my truck is amazing now lol. I wanted a DP but the edge was easier for Santa to purchase I guess. I've got a 6 sp so I could care less about the auto tranny shift points etc... I run my Evo on the 80 hp setting and tow with it a lot, it's been great and my EGTs stay under 12 so I'm happy. It's night and day from stock. I'd say I'd throw stones at it if I got a DP but the edge was free so it's staying in the truck lol.
I got the EVO 1.5 years ago and am happy with it cause i wanted more tq (pulling 15K) and needed gauges. When I get some more $, I will go to a DP though and buy the gauges I need. The EVO is a good "in-between" choice. By the way, the shifting on my 4R100 is a lot stiffer with the Edge than stock. More pressure?
I had a superchips programmer, it was alright, but no where near as good as my DP...after having the DP I will never go back to anything else. I love it.
Hi not trying to steal thread, but my friend called me this morning he has the edge evo in his duramax diesel with the allison tranny. he wants to know if he uses the tow mode on the edge does he still use the tow mode in the tranny.
