I have an '02 F150 2x4 with the 4.2 V6 and a 99 Expedition 4x2 with the 4.6 V8. Both trucks have a shudder that I believe is related to the torque converter clutch, they both miss and pop although the 02 is worse, especially under acceleration. If I ride the brake pedal lightly the shuddering stops, if I tromp the gas and therefore up the RPM's the problem stops.
Is there a way to cut a wire and disable the TC clutch? I don't have a bunch of money to replace the TC in either of these, much less both. If the TC clutch continues to be a problem can it toast the TC and thereby toast the transmissions?
I've had fun searching the sight looking for the answer even though I couldn't find it. Thanks in advance for your help!
If they miss and pop your torque converter has nothing to do with that. You're having a plug/COP/etc problem. IF you're getting torque converter shudder check this post out. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/4...out-of-me.html
