Talking E4OD TC shudder

Hey All,

Please help me with my 1991 E350, 460 motor, E4OD tranny.

The tranny Shudders, just like i see some people say,
under light Acceleration at 40 to 70MPH.

it has been doing this for 2 years now,
as i have pushed the OD=OFF,
and when she shudders, i just Floor it and it stops, (most of the time).

question...

1. can is just Disable the TC lockup, by removing the Purple/Yellow wire that tells the TC to lock up?
2. if not, can i just replace the TC with a new one?
3. do i have to rebuild the whole tranny?

4. i live in Milwaukee, where can i trust a place to rebuild her Correctly?

5. what do you think about this place? kinda close to milwaukee...

in schaumburg , IL

Thank You very much.

I LOVE MY FORD TRUCK!!!!! ok its a van!

thanks

ps
my van has 125,000 miles,
and this is the FIRST problem she has ever had.
she has towed trailers for 70,000 of those miles too!
BIG Trailers!

i did replace 1 starter, and replaced the spark plugs, wires, cap/rotor
at 100K miles.

I LOVE MY FORD TRUCK!

i do change the motor oil every 3,500 miles.
the tranny fluid has never been changed.

just trying to give as much input as possible.

Thanks

It's too bad you aren't near Pittsburgh. Transmissions by Lucille is the only place I would ever take my transmission.

I had a shudder, just like yours, and took it to Lucille's. They told me I needed a tune up, not transmission work. I changed the rotor, distributor cap, and plug wires and guess what. No more shudder. By the way, I had put a new rotor and dist. cap in it only 10k before.

They told me that when a shudder begins you have maybe 100 miles left on the tranny and I had just driven 350 miles to get to them. They said I would probably never have made it with a tranny problem.

Just food for thought.

well

i fixed it, i think?

I CUT THE PURPLE/YELLOW WIRE, [ CIRCUIT 480 ]

JUST ABOVE THE CONNECTOR ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE TRANNY.

it is the wire that tells the TC to lock up.
so, no lock up signal, No Shudder.

Its working?

any problems with that?

thanks

I had same problem for two years. finally i got a couple of codes out of the box pointing to the manual lever position sensor (mlps). I changed it yesterday. it drives like a new truck! Shifts just like new!

Wink i fixed it!

it wasn't a shudder, the truck lacked power and shifted like it had a shift kit installed. It would change with temperature. Some days the thing would run fine. I took it to a tranny place and they wanted 1800 to replace the transmission. I didn't get any fault codes for over a year. i figured as long as it got me to work i would drive it. finally i got a mlps code. I changed the sensor (yes it is on the drivers side of the tranny) and it shifts like a new truck, gas milage is improved. the sensor cost me 113.00 bucks
