Let my rear pads go too long and have to replace
the discs.
According to my Chiltons manual they should slide
off the rear hub unless it's a dual wheel set up.
Did Ford put Dual wheel Hubs on the Excursion?
Mine were not bad, but I hate beating on the pad surface of a rotor. I usually tap the edge and it's enough to break loose the rust. The jarring is all it needs, the rotor isn't pressed on it's just stuck from corrosion or rust weld.
HA HA. On my 7700, i was tracking down a vibration and had the rotors off a few times. every time i had to beat the crap out of them. no rust, they just got stuck. i guess the center hole was machined too small.
If your rotors are junk, it doesn't matter, but it is generally a bad idea to hammer the friction surface!
The rear rotors incorporate the parking brake. These small drum brakes actuate on the inside area that goes over the hub. Make sure the pads are backed off and not touching the rotor otherwise, you'll break your BFH before you get the rotors off.
