got my first 4x4

so i bought an 05 expedition 4x4 right after basic training. its got the 5.4 and so far all ive done to it is put in some nitto open-country a/t on it. they are 275-65-18. next thing i'm doing is pulling those crappy running boards off. i figured out how much they suck when i caught them on a rock. after that i will be putting a grill guard (ala I Am Legend) and safari rack. i'm currently in wichita falls, tx, but i am being stationed at panama city, fl in march. its a pretty capable vehicle all around and i am very impressed with it. i will post pics on the trail as soon as i take some more.

anyone else use thier irs expy off road or am i alone on this one?

Couple people. I am too poor for something that nice to tear up offroad. That is why I drive 30 year old junk. My advice is to take it slow and easy, and really see what the vehicle can do. Jumping and splashing looks cool on TV, but there really is a whole lot more to offroading than that.

Can't give you much advice on sand, but maybe someone else will chime in. Most of my offroading is snow and gravel roads.

Air down your tires. It increases your "foot print" more traction, and helps you "float"

Get some wide/non agressive tires. If you could find a set of mud tires that have about 10% tread and run that on the sand you will be very happy. You might think that I'm crazy but it'll keep you floating ontop of the sand instead of digging 4 big holes. Your weight and lack of horsepower is what's going to limit you on the sand. Atleast that's what I've learned out there on the west coast
