Does anyone know of any books that someone has written on how to restore a late 1970's ford pickup? I found a book on restore Ford truck from 1946 to 1967 and it discusses everything from budgeting to how to get started. I just want a book that covers my year of truck, a 1979 f250 ranger.
I do not know of any book. But what do you need a book for? There are websites dedicated to this truck, such as this one. Utilize this site by using the search key and if that does not answer your question, then post a question. There are tons of people willing to answer any question you may have. Post a pic if you have any.
I am just curious if there are any books out there. I am very green to auotmobiles past the routine maintenance but I am certain that I want to do a ground up restore on my 79 f250
A good place to start would be to get your hands on the factory manuals for repair and maintenance on these trucks. Companies like Jeff's Bronco Graveyard offer the manuals on CD-rom, for around 60 bucks, which is an invaluable source of information. The next thing is the little search function on this message board. If you have a question, search for the answer because there's a high probability that it's been discussed before by some of us wingnuts. This also goes for sites like Google, Dogpile, etc. Be creative in your search terms, and you'll be amazed what you can find if you put your mind to it.
I've never restored anything before Buford, and it didn't stop me from completely going overboard and losing my mind. I will say that with experience comes wisdom. You can save a heck of a lot of money the more you learn about what companies to go through versus which to avoid. The same goes for parts too. As most of us can attest to, there are some parts that work well, while others don't work worth diddly. Believe me, you WILL be paying for things more than once, no matter how much research you do. That's why asking questions, doing enormous amounts of research, and having a plan will keep that sort of redundant expenditure to a minimum.
That's about the only pearls of wisdom I can impart without more caffeine this morning. So, I'm off to induce a Mt. Dew based euphoria.
