Hi All, I have a 1966 f-100 long bed that my wife bought me this last summer. It has been sitting in a field fir the last 20 years so she pretty ruff.
Anyhow the previous owner said the engine had been rebuilt, he said he put the second to biggest cam in it he could get. Well around here that was proubably a general conetc's cam I'm guesing. I started work on it and have just fired the engine up and it dont want to idle at all. it has a rebuit factory two barrel on it and stock manifolds intake and exhaust. Does anyone think this engine will ever idle or should I just pull the cam and start over.
I just went thru the ignition and all is well. John the bores look real good spark plugs were good too, oil pressure is fine. This thing runs well as long as you keep the rpms up around 1500 1800 and up. No missing or bad noises coming from it.Now I tried closing the air off to the carb too see if i could have an intake leak and the rpms came up anouther 300 rpm or so. From what I can tell this isn't no monster cam. It sounds more like a 270 comp cam would.
What could I expect if I had an intake leak on the inside? I am just about ready to pull that off and check it. Anyone have any other ideas? I am also leaning towards it just being to lean with the two barrel carb, but isn"t that crazy it should idle with no load on it.???? agree disagree???? HELP ITS DRIVING ME NUTS LOL
Update: I have now got the engine to idle. I set the timing with the vacume gage to its highest vacume. Both the timing and the mechanic were a little retarded. LOL I love this stuff.
