Sensor? TSS OSS VSS???

Driving down the highway, all of a sudden the speedometer shuts off, turn signals don't work,a/c doesn't blow cold,.......abs light comes on

I hooked up my Edge programmer in the diagnostics mode and it says there was a Vehicle Speed Sensor error. Would this be the one on the rear axle? Transmission? How hard are the ones on the tranny to change?

Thanks in advance

No speedo and ABS light is usually a faulty VSS. Either it has gone bad or wear metals in the rear diff have collected on the sensor. VSS easy to change. One bolt and a 2 wire connector.

As far as turn sigs and a/c .

VSS on top of rear diff:

It could be your GEM. Do a search for it. It controls a lot of electrical stuff and causes weird electrical problems. I think it is a dealer only item. I'm not sure a good way to tell for sure. Maybe someone else knows.

Also, was it raining or snowing when this happened. A leaky windshield can cause problems like this.

Could it be some kind of fuse?

The transmission shop told me I needed a vss. Installed and now have speedo needle bounce. I filed the plastic sensor so it would sit deeper and pick up gear oil as the rear end turned. The bounce is less but still there and I still can't use the cruise control. I have checked and cleaned every connection and still have issues. The trans shop said that my next step replacing the speedo in the dash

What year is your truck? I have a 2000 and it ended up being a blown fuse under the dash. For some reason it blew the fuse and then I kept putting new ones in finally it cleared itself up. The fuse was a 15 amp ( red ) I believe and it was under the dash right side about three or four down. Might want to check the fuses and see if it dosent help out some.

yep, I replaced that and it worked for 5 miles, then blew the fuse again. There were some metal shavings on the old sensor when I took it out, I wonder if the new sensor is picking up those shavings and that is causing the fuse to blow? Guess its time to service the rear end

How many times did you replace that fuse?

I replaced the fuse about 3 or 4 times on my way to Ca from FL. Now it isnt blowing so I dont know what was going on. I did put a 20 amp fuse in there and it blew it almost faster than the 15's. Still trying to figure it out but not going to worry about it until later when it happens again. Also if you notice the OD light starts to blink on the shifter. Maybe its in the column I did move some of them wires around.
