Those tear drop are sharp. But common used only in single pairs. Looks good on your truck; Branden.
1939 Ford taillamps: Prolly the most common taillights used on Hi Boys.
Hi Boys: 1928/32 Ford roadsters that have had the running boards and splash shields removed...doing that exposes the body riding high atop the frame rails.
The lamps are frenched (or not) into the rear body pan.
There's several possible units here Super Bright LEDs - Truck Lights. Very bright LEDs, inexpensive, DOT approved. I used a pair of the M4 series in white frenched into my rear pan for backup lights. I used a section of electrical conduit for a housing. I have a set of their traditional oval trailer taillights I just installed in my race trailer, no more blown bulbs. They also have LED replacement bulbs for traditional taillights.
Also very popular are late Corvette in round or rounded square shapes.
I am using this company's Custom Products For Your Hot Rod,Classic Pickup,&Sport Truck LED version of the 99 Caddy taillights mounted vertically, but they or their 89-93 Units would also work mounted horizontally in the pan. They even offer the buckets for frenching. Finally they offer the old standby 59 Caddy bullet lenses.
I took this picture at the 2008 Western Nationals...I really like the clean look of these taillights. I guess that they could be mounted in the tail pan as well as the bed...
Note: I too really like the appearance of the led strip lights and flush stealth lights, but would be very hesitant to use them on a daily driver, especially in unexpected locations like along the top of a rolled pan, in a bumper, or along the bottom edge of the tailgate.
I would not feel comfortable trusting the safety of me and my truck to a soccer mom on a cell phone or a blue hair taking in the scenery noticing my thin/cleaverly hidden lights suddenly signalling a panic stop or left turn into a parking lot.
The ones on the grey truck are the 99 Caddy style like I used, I frenched mounted mine vertically into the back panels to each side of the rear doors and used the stock caddy chrome trim rings.
The 89 style are more symetrical along the long axis.
